Fighting Childhood Hunger, One Weekend at a Time
No child should go hungry on the weekends simply because school lunches are unavailable. Through the CHIPPâ„¢ (Childhood Hunger Initiative Packing Program), CSK is working to ensure that food-insecure children in the Greater New Haven area have access to nutritious meals every day of the week.
CHIPP is a partnership between CSK and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Tau Xi Omega Chapter, one of the nation's most respected service organizations. Each week, volunteers pack weekend meal kits containing nutritious, kid-friendly food that students take home on Fridays to sustain them through the weekend. The program currently serves students at Helen Street School in New Haven.
2025 Impact
%
In October 2025, we improved the quality and nutritional value of the food being packed in our CHIPP meal kits, ensuring that children receive even more wholesome meals to sustain them over the weekends.
Growing the Program
The need for childhood hunger support in New Haven continues to grow. Helen Street School has requested that CSK increase the number of children served to 100 per week, and CSK is exploring opportunities to centralize its childhood hunger initiatives — including CHIPP, potential partnerships with the New Haven Police Athletic League (PAL) youth programs, and the Food4Kids initiative — under a single umbrella. These conversations are ongoing and represent a core priority for CSK's expansion in 2026 and beyond.
How You Can Help
Your support makes CHIPP possible. A donation of just $5 provides a weekend meal kit for one child. Volunteers are needed to help pack meals, and community organizations are welcome to sponsor additional students or schools.
In 2025, CSK's Great Give campaign raised over $18,500 to support CHIPP — exceeding our $15,000 goal. We hope to grow that support even further in 2026.
